Charging labels for electric cars and plug-in hybrids

What is already EU standard since October 2018 for fossil fuels, will also be introduced per March 20, 2021 for electric charging stations: uniform labels to know at a glance, which plug belongs to the car. Therefore, charging will be simplified for all vehicle users throughout Europe.

The label consists of a single letter as an indication of the charging option (either AC or DC charging). If the labels on the vehicle and on the charging station fit together, you can charge without hesitation.

The charging labels are put on newly produced vehicles (mopeds, motor bikes, passenger cars, light and heavy commercial vehicles), vehicle charging devices, every charging plug, loose charging cables, in the vehicle manual, on charging stations and even at car dealers. Already registered vehicles are not upgraded.

The labels are used in all 27 EU member states as well as in Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Serbia, Macedonia and Turkey. If Great Britain also participates is not yet known.

The following graphics illustrate the labels and their meaning:
